More 48 Hour Film Projects

So, last night I got to run back into Boston to view 10 more of the films from the 48 Hour Film Project. I was really going to show support to Team: Danny Glover's Super Action Adventure Force Brigade Squad. Having already seen both their winning film from last year "The Road" and this year's "Null and Void" (both available at the website), I was looking forward to watching N&V on the big screen... and it was well worth it. This team puts together an awesome film it seems like every year!
However... the rest of the films shown left me wanting more. Even the Comedy was weak... which I thought would be tough. Probably the only other highlights from the screening were "Brokecat Mountain" which is exactly what you think it is, and maybe... yeah actually that's it. Don't get me wrong some of the other films had some fun parts, but were inconsistent. The Holiday film was actually pretty good.. basically anytime you can get a guy dressed up as Abe Lincoln playing an accordian... you get my vote.
Overall it made me feel even better for our film. For a first year entry it really came together, and we put together a consistently entertaining film... go us! Coming up in July is the 48 Hour Film Project for Providence... there is some debate as to whether or not we'll do that as well... maybe not get the whole team this time... maybe Kyp and I will try our own hand :)

48 Hour Film

It's not 48 hours long, that's how long we had to make it. We had a lot of fun though. And here's the finished project. Hope you get a chuckle out of it.

Mark Reviews: Funny Games

So with the Remake of 1997's German film Funny Games, I decided to take a look at the original.  Now supposedly Michael Haneke (director of both the original and the remake) has been incredibly detail oriented about this remake of his own movie.

Regardless... this movie was incredibly disturbing, but amazing... like... REALLY AMAZING.  If you don't know the story, basically this affluent family goes up to their summer lake house.  The wife is interrupted in the kitchen by a knock at the door.  From there two young men enter the house being incredibly polite.

However, they are looking to play a set of sadistic games:
"let's make a bet... you bet that by 9am tomorrow, you'll be alive, and we bet you won't."

With a solid, yet disturbing plot, decent acting, and beautiful filming... this movie easily jumped to my favorites list.  My only thing is the acting was a bit weak, so I'm looking forward to seeing Naomi Watts, Tim Roth and Michael Pitt in the roles.  I will say that the boy who played Peter (Michael Pitt's character) was fantastic in this movie!!

Anyway, if you're worried about violence, don't, there's really not much seen... but yes... you hear stuff and it gets a little disturbing... but still... i highly recommend the movie!!

Are We Doomed? Cause We're Definitely Repeating.

It seems the New Kids on the Block are gearing up for a reunion tour. The movie version of G.I. Joe is in production and the movies I’m most looking forward to this summer are a cartoon about a silly robot and Batman. When did the 80’s happen? That was 20 years ago right? I think time has dyslexia because we’re experiencing the 80’s in 08. I am in no way about to dump on these things, as I think they each have their own bit of awesomeness attached to them. The new G.I. Joe is a live action version that I can assure you will be rated the Summer Blockbuster appropriate PG-13, Wall*E is sure to get an Oscar nomination simply because of its pedigree and the Joker in The Dark Night is being touted as getting back to the roots of the character: a cold blooded monster who enjoys killing people. Wait a minute, are our childhoods growing up with us? They say the more things change the more they stay the same. Have we gotten so different that we’re exactly the same, or are we so similar now that we’re completely different. Or did I just blow your minds?!
