10 Things

Ok, so it's no secret that Kyp and I are huge fans of Joseph Gordon Levitt, and with the approaching release of The Dark Knight featuring none other than Patrick Verona (Heath Ledger) what better movie to throw on in the thought of, "hey...i can turn this off at any point since i've seen it so many times"... and now i'm about hour and half into it... SUCH A GOOD MOVIE.

It's weird to think how many things i've said in the past have been heavily influenced by this film.  and yeah... i called it a film... it's amazing!!! YOU ADAPT SHAKESPEARE AND SEE HOW IT COMES OUT!!!

"...annnndddd i'm BACK IN THE GAME!!!"

if only.

Movie Excitement: Charlie Bartlett

Alright, what do you get when you take a high school kid who doesn't really fit in and is victim to over protective parents who send him to a therapist, then mix in his desire to help fellow classmates while attending a high school which drive him nuts? Charlie Bartlett... that's what you get. I have to admit, I thought this movie had already come and gone from theaters... I in fact added it to my netflix quene... wondering when it would be coming out on DVD. The film stars Anton Yelchin known for his role in Alpha Dogg, and playing the song of the protaganist in the Showtime Original series "Huff" (Showtime? HBO? I dunno). It looks to be a funny story following the high-schooler who decides to open his own psychiatrist office in the boy's bathroom, and uses his own therapist to prescribe him the medications for his "patients".

The story seems good, and with what I've seen of Anton, the acting looks promising. Also making appearances are Robert Downey Jr. and Barrack Obama.

Just kidding about Obama

Movie Excitment: There Will Be Blood

Paul Thomas Anderson is a genius. There, I said it. Magnolia is my 2nd favorite movie ever, and Punch-Drunk Love is probably in the top 20. Boogie Nights is fantastic and thought I've yet to get a hands on his debut Hard Eight, I've heard nothing but good things. So when I heard he had a new movie coming out I was thrilled. When I learned Daniel Day-Lewis was staring I went into a 3 day Awesome Coma.

I, then, learned the film in question was about an Oil Tycoon and base on a novel entitled Oil! Tell me, how do you not get excited about a movie based on a book with 3 letters and an exclamation point as the title. You can't not get excited, the point tells you you have to! <--see.

The movie also features Paul Dano, who played the kid who took a vow of silence in last years Little Miss Sunshine. I'm very eager to see what he can do with actual dialog.

Daniel Day-Lewis or P.T. Anderson alone are enough to get this writer excited. But together they shall combine to form a megazord of awesomeness. If you aren't already, get excited about There Will Be Blood.

Movie Excitment: The Golden Compass

I'm going to take a moment and talk about some movies I am, quote, "Wicked Excited" about. The first of which is out tomorrow: The Golden Compass. I know what you're thinking, Kyp, why are you excited about a silly kids movie? Well I can tell you, this ain't no kids movie. I first became curious about TGC when I noticed The Giant Effing Polar Bears in armor. The next thing I noticed was the PG-13 rating. Huh, I thought, this movie must have at least one gruesome mauling in it. Learning that The Golden Compass (the first in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy) has a rabid and active fan-base, I decided to go to the source. I read the book and my excitement about this film went from "curious" to "how can I fashion a time machine out of around-the-house objects, so I can see this movie now?" Let me give you a few incentives to see this film.

  • PG-13: so it won't shy away from the action. There will be blood.
  • Sam Elliot as Lee Scoresby: if you don't know who Sam Elliot is look him up now. He's known for playing bad-asses, straight up. And his character in TGC is no exception.
  • Kidman as a villain: Those who have seen To Die For know she's awesome as the villain. in TGC she plays a child stealer, how eviler can you get?! BONUS: she has an evil monkey side kick... no really!
  • Armored Effing Bear Duel. It's like Thunder Dome, but with Armored Effing Bears.
In closing, if you weren't planning on seeing this movie, just give it a chance. If the film is half as awesome as the book it will be well worth the 10 bucks.
