Ok... so Cloverfield has come out... and some people went and saw a midnight showing of it.

Alright, I don't want to give too much away, but below is an artist's rendering of what the monster appears to be. This evil creature lures people into it's grasps and then destorys everything in it's path... oh the humanity.

For those that don't get the joke, the title is a play on the phrase "Wax Philosophic" or "Wax Philosophical" which means to "get philosophical" or talk about philosophical issues and ideas. I think you can take it from here.

Mark and I have been neglecting our blogging duties, something we are sure to remedy.

Wax Idiotical's Movie Rating System

So, Kyp and I had been going back and forth for a while trying to come up with some unique ranking system for movies... we had of course toyed with the un-original Star system (4 stars= good etc) then we thought about "wait for rental" vs "go see now".... finally we've come upon our own system.
Enjoyable, versus Amusing... with a little wiggle room for terrible yet fun.
How did we come upon this system? Discussing Rambo, There Will Be Blood, Alien Vs. Predator 2, Meet the Spartans, Juno, Shoot 'Em Up and Transformers... Yes... ALL of those.

Basically, I argued I wasn't that excited for Rambo, because it looked like an action movie that would be amusing, because things would blow up etc... but afterwards... there would be no enjoyment... I wouldn't take anything away from the film basically. Which led to our discussion of the difference between Enjoyment and Amusement.

Enjoyment = a lasting feeling
Amusement = in the moment
Bad = not amusing or enjoyable.

For example:
Amusement: Transformers, Probably Rambo
Enjoyment: Juno, There Will be Blood
Bad: AVP2... no real redeeming quality.
