Snowmen Support the Writers

So Kyp and I attended the "Boston TV Party" on Friday, obviously considering Kyp's previous post.  But still; it was truly inspiring listening to the three writers speak.  I was kind of struck at one point that these three guys (espcially Rob who writes for the Daily Show) have jokes just kicking around that they can't use; so when they speak publicly, they get to use them, and bring us back to the happy time when we had new tv shows.

Over all it was an awesome experience to meet some famous people, listen to them speak, and walk side-by-side with these people in support of them.  The picture posted was taken while we waited in-line to go into the church for the talk; soon after, upon hearing that negotiations had come to another stand-still... our little friend Jacob the Snowman jumped to his death from atop the fence he was perched.  As he fell you could hear on the wind, "Sic Semper Tyrannus"

mm out

Couple questions:
1. What was printed on your signs?

2. Inspired? It was inspiring to hear three striking writers speak because they have a bunch of jokes they can't use? What? Crazy.

3. Sic Semper Tyrannus. So. The studios are the dictator? Really? When was the last time you paid to download a song?

PS - From our boy Bill Simmons:

Rich people are rich for a reason -- they don't give stuff away, especially stuff like "here's a fixed percentage of Internet revenue even though we don't understand this medium yet" and "sure, we'll allow you to sympathy strike every time another union goes on strike to give those other unions even more leverage!" They also have the money to weather the loss of revenue of an extended strike, whereas the striking writers have no revenue coming in because they aren't allowed to write. Hmmmm, which side do you think will cave first?

on our signs:
mine- The WGA saves us from Reality TV

Kyps- We support the WGA... a lot

2- bunch of jokes / inspiring, two separate thoughts

3- the studio is tyrannical, most tv channels are boiled down to being owned by 1 of 6 companies...

bill simmons- they're asking for 2.5% of a 20 dollar DVD revenue... not exactly asking a ton.

Writers are exploring different methods of generating income, including producing shows without the studios. it was something then mentioned at the talk.

"Hmmmm, which side do you think will cave first?"

The writers are crazy, the studios are not. Advantage: Writers.
